The Round Table “Sustainable Development of Marine/Blue Economy in the Azov-Black Sea Region, the Importance of Maritime Spatial Planning — 2020” Took Place

On 10 September 2020, the round table “Sustainable Development of Marine/Blue Economy in the Azov-Black Sea Region, the Importance of Maritime Spatial Planning — 2020” took place in Durso village of the Krasnodar region.

Organizers: Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS jointly with the Southern Scientific Centre RAS and the Scientific and Research Institute of Maritime Spatial Planning Ermak Northwest supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The round table was held both offline and online and brought together over 50 participants from various Black Sea countries: academia, regional governments, experts in innovative industries of the Blue Economy, planners, and international organizations (UNESCO, Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, European Commission's Directorate General for Research and Innovation).

The round table participants discussed the prospects of the Black Sea Basin Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, the upcoming participation of Russia in the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), environmental and climatic challenges of the Azov-Black Sea region, and the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea.

The round table discussion outcomes and decisions will be presented at the round tables “Russia’s Strategic Planning System for the Development of Maritime Activities, and the Maritime Spatial Planning” and “Multilateral Regional Cooperation in the Black Sea Based on the Maritime Economy: Opportunities and Prospects” to be held as part of the Strategic Planning Leaders Forum 2020, October 27.
